SAN ANTONIO — New rules that make it easier for gay and bisexual men in the U.K. to donate blood have been found to be safe, but equal rights campaigners say they don’t go far enough to eliminate discrimination, New Scientist reports

Two years in, this policy change hasn’t compromised the safety of the U.K.’s donor blood supply, New Scientist reports.

There was no significant rise in infected blood. Out of 2 million blood donations made in the U.K. in 2018, seven tested positive for HIV, compared with six in 2017. These donations were discarded and no transfusion recipients received HIV-infected blood, she told the meeting New Scientist reports.
