Two LGBTQ women elected to Prince William County town councils

Voters in Prince William County on Tuesday elected two LGBTQ women to town councils.
Haymarket Town Council member-elect Tracy Lynn Pater, a constituent of state Del. Danica Roem (D-Manassas), won by an 11 percent margin. Occoquan Town Council member Laurie E. Holloway was reelected with more than 20 percent of the vote, the highest in that election, according to the Virginia Department of Elections.
“Congratulations to
my friend Laurie Holloway on her re-election to the Occoquan Town Council,”
Roem tweeted. “And [to] my constituent Tracy Lynn Pater on her election to the
Haymarket Town Council!”
The election was to have taken place on May 5, but Gov. Ralph Northam issued an executive order that moved them to May 19 because of the coronavirus pandemic. Many were encouraged to vote by mail, but WTOP reported some voters cast their ballots in person while social distancing.
The general election
is still scheduled to take place on Nov. 3, and the deadline to request an
absentee ballot by mail in Virginia is Oct. 27. Visit the Virginia Department
of Elections webpage for more
information.
